After cancelling his trip last October, US President Barack Obama is planning for another tour in Asia and Malaysia will be one of his stops.
President Barack Obama will seek to ease questions over the staying power of his strategic shift to increasingly tense East Asia in April with stops in Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and South Korea.
Obama’s planned visit to Kuala Lumpur is intended to make up for the cancellation of his Asian tour due to the domestic political strife in Washington late last year.
Besides Malaysia, he will also be visiting Manila, Tokyo and Seoul.
According to the official statement from The White House, his April trip will highlight his “ongoing commitment to increase US diplomatic, economic and security engagement with countries in the Asia-Pacific region.”
Obama will head to Malaysia to meet Prime Minister Najib Razak to discuss deepening defense and military ties, after Seoul. Then he will proceed to Manila.
There’s no exact date mentioned of his trip, but it will be towards the end of April 2014.
Looks like the folks at Putrajaya will have busy months ahead to prepare for his visit.
